Molecular Biology: What Ubiquitin Can Do for Transcription
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ubiquitin, the peptide 'tag' that targets eukaryotic proteins for degradation by the proteasome, has also been implicated in transcriptional activation. The mechanism of gene activation might include recruitment of a transcriptional elongation factor by ubiquitinated activators.

Molecular approaches to diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis what we know and what we do not know.
Invasive aspergillosis (IA) are a major complication in immunocompromized patients where can be serious and rapidly fatal. Early diagnosis and early appropriate antifungal treatment is important in reducing mortality and morbidity. But despite many efforts to develop detection methods, the diagnosis of IA still remains challenging and current conventional methods are limited for adequate diagno...
متن کاملCAND1-mediated substrate adaptor recycling is required for efficient repression of Nrf2 by Keap1.
The bZIP transcription factor Nrf2 controls a genetic program that protects cells from oxidative damage and maintains cellular redox homeostasis. Keap1, a BTB-Kelch protein, is the major upstream regulator of Nrf2. Keap1 functions as a substrate adaptor protein for a Cul3-dependent E3 ubiquitin ligase complex to repress steady-state levels of Nrf2 and Nrf2-dependent transcription. Cullin-depend...
متن کاملLigand-dependent degradation of Smad3 by a ubiquitin ligase complex of ROC1 and associated proteins.
Smads are signal mediators for the members of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. Upon phosphorylation by the TGF-beta receptors, Smad3 translocates into the nucleus, recruits transcriptional coactivators and corepressors, and regulates transcription of target genes. Here, we show that Smad3 activated by TGF-beta is degraded by the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. Smad3 int...
متن کاملDisruption of heat shock factor 1 reveals an essential role in the ubiquitin proteolytic pathway.
Inhibition of proteasome-mediated protein degradation machinery is a potent stress stimulus that causes accumulation of ubiquitinated proteins and increased expression of heat shock proteins (Hsps). Hsps play pivotal roles in homeostasis and protection in a cell, through their well-recognized properties as molecular chaperones. The inducible Hsp expression is regulated by the heat shock transcr...
متن کاملThe Biology of SUMO-Targeted Ubiquitin Ligases in Drosophila Development, Immunity, and Cancer
The ubiquitin and SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) pathways modify proteins that in turn regulate diverse cellular processes, embryonic development, and adult tissue physiology. These pathways were originally discovered biochemically in vitro, leading to a long-standing challenge of elucidating both the molecular cross-talk between these pathways and their biological importance. Recent disc...
